Interview with Ann Beate Nordbø and Fred Ivar Falck Husum june 12th 2008

Some big changes will take place in Midgardsormen both at the Bryne and Sogndal studio july 1st. Fred Ivar is moving and will be in Sognal full time. He has been working on both studios until now, travelling in between. At the same time Ann Beate is finishing her training and will be the new owner of the studio in Bryne. We have managed to talk to them regarding whats happening these days.

Interviewer:
Ann Beate, you will be in charge at the Bryne studio from july the 1st. Are you looking forward to it?

Ann Beate:
Yes, of course very much. This is the job of my dreams, but of course it might get a little intense too take care of all the customers by myself.

Interviewer:
And you Fred Ivar, looking forward to moving?

Fred Ivar:
Well, not so much to the moving part ;-), but I will be happy when it is done. It will be different to just have one studio to worry about. I am hoping to be able to focus more on my work. I am looking forward to that ;-)

Interviewer:
Ann Beate, what is your backround education prior to picking up tattooing?

Ann Beate:
I have a 3 year education in drawing in Norway and 4 years in England where I got a BA in illustration. After finishing the education I have been doing different things. Doing comics and even being paid(!) to color comics. I have also been doing portraits and paintings by order.

Interviewer:
And you Fred Ivar?

Fred Ivar:
I have no formal education like Ann Beate. I just enjoyed drawing very much as a kid and spent a lot of time goofing around with a pencil and a paper...
By the way, next month I am celebrating my 10th anniversary as a tattoo artist. A lot of time has passed since I started out. I have been learning much during this time and are learning still. This is a profession where you just never stop learning. You can always develop yourself even further. I use to quote a nice sentence: "if you think you are finished learning, you are not finished learning but you are finished!" Interviewer:
So when did you start to learn to tattoo Ann Beate?

Ann Beate:
November 2007.

Interviewer:
How did it work out?

Ann Beate:
In the beginning my nerves almost got the better of me. I was really nervous. It was a good thing much of this work was done on some of my not so good friends (laughing). Just kidding, they where great friends of mine. I am greatful they dared to stay.

Interviewer:
Any mistakes?

Ann Beate:
My biggest mistake probably was on my second tattoo. I managed to make the teeth on an old school skull a little croked. This tattoo was done on my best friend and she think it turned out to be a cute and charming mistake.

Interviewer:
And what about your first tattoo?

Ann Beate:
I have been practicing a bit on dead pig skin before I started making "real" tattoos (chills). But my nerves really got the better of me on the first "real" one. Fortunatly the end result turned out pretty good. And I had the illusion my first tattoo would be small and easy. But it turned out to be a BIG tribal(!).

Interviewer:
What are your favorite styles of tattoo?

Ann beate:
Colors and especially old school. I also like realistic style and femenine designs. Like "doodles", you know.

Fred Ivar:
Black and Gray, realistic, fantasy and viking style. By the way, I really hate stars...

Interviewer:
Plans for the future?

Ann Beate:
When Fred Ivar is gone, I will continue the business on Bryne as usual. I will be the new owner on Bryne, but I will keep the Midgardsormen name and the same telephone number. But the building in witch we rent studiospace is going to be demolished soon. Then I will find new locatoins but still in Bryne. I do not know exactly when this will happen yet.

Fred Ivar:
Just to keep it on back home in Sogndal. Focus on the art and hopefully make more time for other artforms too. Like drawing and painting. I really miss having more time for this. And also some more time for the family and tasks on our farm and the horses.

Interviewer:
No changes at all for the customers?

Ann Beate:
Different opening ours. I have a kid in kindergarden and he need to be picked up around four o clock. The opening ours will therefore be 11.00 to 16.00 monday to friday. Starting from july 1st.

Fred Ivar:
I think I will have less customers in Sogndal so I will be starting out with opening ours from 13.00 to 17.00 monday to friday. I will see how it works out and make adjustmenst accordingly. Also starting from july 1st.

Interviewer:
Fred Ivar, sure you will not miss Bryne at all?

Fred Ivar:
I think it will work out fine. I am really looking forward to come home. But of course, it might get a little strange at first.
Anyway I might pop up for a guest apperance on Bryne once in a while in the future if Ann Beate has room and customers for me. Cant promise anything thoug. We will see.

From july 1st 2008 it will be more convenient to get a tattoo appointment in Sogndal!

Fred Ivar is leaving Bryne behind and moving back home during this summer. He is planning to spend more time tattooing at the studio in Sogndal as well as attend to the family farm.

Ann Beate Nordbø is completing her training in june and will carry on with her work keeping the Bryne studio alive.
She has been very busy during this winter working to improve her tattoo skills aiming to meet the cahllenge of running the studio by herself with confidence.

After 6 years of inking in Bryne Fred Ivar will leave for now, but you never know, he might show up again once in a while for some guestwork ;-)

We have been working day and night the last couple of months to open a new and improved webshop.

New features include:

New products include
swords and knifes, a lot of new t-shirt designs and more music.
As we did not manage to include all the expected new products at the date of opening, we are going to add a lot of new stuff already within a couple of weeks!

Beklagelegvis er åpninga av webshopen utsett på grunn av problem med webshop oppsettet. Ny åpningsdato er sett til måndag 6. mars.

Sadly the webshop opening are delayed due to some difficulties in the webshop setup. New openingdate is set to 6th of march. Be sure to check it out!

Den første t-skjorta i valhalla serien er endeleg ferdig! Trykt på Midgardsormen`s eige silketrykkeri. Trykk både bak, framme og på eine ermet.

Motivet til t-skjortene i Valhalla serien har norrøn inspirasjon. Det vert bilder av gudar og skapningar, hendingar og sagn i norrøn mytologi.

Denne første t-skjorta har såklart motiv av Midgardsormen!
Foreløpig kun i kraftig topp kvalitet slimfit utgave. Designet er signert av Fred Ivar.

T-skjorta heng no klar for salg i butikken både på Bryne og i Sogndal. Kan og kjøpast online på nettbutikken vår som etter planen skal åpnast 1. mars.

03.01 -2006 Nyoppussa lokaler i Sogndal

Geir avsluttar Linkcenterbutikken, og går inn i Midgardsormen. Drifta vert som før der Geir har ansvaret for butikkdrifta og piercingen, mens Fred Ivar tatoverer ei veke kvar månad.

Me har brukt jule- og nyttårshelga til å pussa opp butikken i "Midgardsormen-stil". Samtidig har me redusert leigearealet til ca. halvparten. Me har derfor no fått felles inngang med naboen vår, solstudioet "Brun og Blid".

Velkommen innom til ein "ny" og triveleg butikk.


15.08 -2005 Silketrykkeri

Midgardsormen investerer i silketrykkeri. Tanken er å produsera eigne silketrykk på t-skjorter, hettegenserar o.l. for salg i butikkane i Sogndal og på Bryne. Me har også plan om å åpna nettbutikk på nyåret 2006.

Me tek og imot trykkejobbar for firma, foreningar og lag.
